General Jet Ski Fishing

Who is Paul Hayes?

Paul Hayes is the founder of Jetcast and an experienced fisherman and offshore jet ski angler based in Queensland, Australia. Through the Jetcast website and YouTube channel, Paul shares fishing techniques, fish finder tutorials, product reviews, safety advice, and practical offshore fishing knowledge gained from years of experience on the water.

Are Jet Skis Good for Offshore Fishing?

Absolutely. Modern jet skis have become one of the most capable and cost-effective offshore fishing platforms available.

While many people still think of jet skis as recreational watercraft, today's larger models offer impressive range, stability, reliability, and storage capacity. Purpose-built fishing models such as the Sea-Doo Fish Pro range, along with popular Yamaha FXHO and FXSVHO models, are regularly used by anglers to access reefs, wrecks, bait grounds, and offshore fishing locations that would otherwise require a much larger vessel.

#### Advantages of Offshore Fishing From a Jet Ski

* Lower purchase and operating costs than most boats
* Easy launching and retrieval by a single person
* Minimal maintenance requirements
* Excellent fuel efficiency
* Ability to access shallow and remote launch locations
* Easy towing with smaller vehicles
* Direct connection to the fishing experience

Many anglers are surprised by just how far offshore modern jet skis can comfortably travel when operated safely and within their limits.

#### What About Stability?

One of the biggest misconceptions about jet ski fishing is that the craft are unstable.

Modern fishing jet skis are remarkably stable at rest and underway. Many anglers fish comfortably while drifting, bottom fishing, trolling, jigging, and live baiting. Accessories such as fishing pods and storage systems can further increase stability and carrying capacity.

#### Are There Any Limitations?

Like any vessel, jet skis have limitations.

They generally offer less weather protection than larger boats, have more limited carrying capacity, and require careful trip planning when fishing long distances offshore. Weather conditions, fuel range, and safety equipment should always be considered before heading offshore.

#### Are They Safe Offshore?

When operated responsibly and equipped correctly, jet skis can be a very safe offshore fishing platform. Many anglers carry GPS units, marine radios, EPIRBs or PLBs, navigation lights, and other safety equipment suitable for offshore use.

The key is understanding your craft, monitoring weather conditions, carrying the appropriate safety equipment, and operating within your experience level.

For many anglers, a well-equipped fishing jet ski offers an unbeatable combination of affordability, adventure, fuel efficiency, and fishing performance. In fact, achieving the same offshore fishing capability in a boat often requires spending considerably more money on both the vessel and ongoing operating costs.

Why Do People Choose a Jet Ski Instead of a Boat for Fishing?

For many anglers, a jet ski offers an affordable, practical, and exciting way to access offshore fishing grounds without the cost and complexity of owning a larger boat.

Modern fishing jet skis are capable of travelling considerable distances offshore while using relatively little fuel. They're easy to launch and retrieve, can often be towed by smaller vehicles, and typically fit in a standard garage.

Some of the biggest advantages include:

* Lower purchase and operating costs
* Excellent fuel efficiency
* Easy solo launching and retrieval
* Simple storage at home
* Access to remote beaches and launch locations
* Direct connection to the fishing experience
* Minimal maintenance compared to many boats

While boats offer greater carrying capacity and weather protection, many anglers find a fishing jet ski provides everything they need for offshore adventures at a fraction of the overall ownership cost.

For many owners, it's not about replacing a boat—it's about spending more time on the water and less time worrying about storage, maintenance, and running costs.

Can I Launch a Jet Ski by Myself?

Yes, absolutely.

One of the biggest advantages of owning a jet ski is that it can usually be launched and retrieved by a single person without assistance. In fact, many jet ski anglers regularly fish solo and launch their craft entirely on their own.

Compared to larger boats, jet skis are generally lighter, easier to manoeuvre, and require less ramp space, making solo launching much simpler.

#### How Do I Launch a Jet Ski Alone?

A typical solo launch involves:

* Preparing all gear and safety equipment before entering the ramp area.
* Reversing the trailer into the water until the jet ski becomes buoyant.
* Releasing the winch and safety chain.
* Sliding or gently backing the jet ski from the trailer.
* Securing the jet ski to a nearby pontoon, beach, or courtesy dock.
* Parking your vehicle and trailer before returning to the watercraft.

With a little practice, many owners can complete the entire process in just a few minutes.

#### What Makes Solo Launching Easier?

Several factors can make launching alone quicker and less stressful:

* A well-adjusted trailer
* Suitable guide poles
* Easy access to a pontoon or courtesy dock
* Good weather and calm conditions
* Launching aids designed for personal watercraft

Preparation is often the biggest time saver. Having rods rigged, electronics ready, and safety equipment organised before reaching the ramp helps avoid delays and reduces pressure at busy boat ramps.

#### What About Retrieving the Jet Ski?

For many owners, retrieval is actually the more challenging part of the process, particularly in strong wind, tidal flow, or crowded ramps.

Dedicated launch and retrieval systems such as Jetcatch can help guide the jet ski onto the trailer and make solo retrieval significantly easier, especially for anglers who frequently fish alone.

#### Is Solo Launching Safe?

Yes, provided you follow safe boating practices and operate within your experience level.

Take your time, be mindful of ramp conditions, wear appropriate safety equipment, and avoid rushing. If conditions are particularly windy or challenging, don't be afraid to ask for assistance.

One of the reasons jet ski fishing has become so popular is that it offers a level of independence that larger boats often cannot match. With the right preparation and a little practice, launching and retrieving a jet ski alone quickly becomes second nature for most owners.

I'm new to jet ski fishing. What should I buy first?

Most beginners start with a sounder cover, reel cover, navigation lights, tethers, rod wraps, and safety equipment. We also offer starter bundles for popular Sea-Doo and Yamaha fishing models.

How Much Fuel Does a Fishing Jet Ski Use?

Fuel consumption varies depending on the make and model of jet ski, engine size, sea conditions, load, and how the craft is being operated.

However, one of the biggest surprises for many new anglers is just how fuel-efficient modern fishing jet skis can be.

#### Typical Fuel Usage

During offshore fishing trips, many modern four-stroke fishing jet skis consume somewhere between **10 and 20 litres per hour**, although actual fuel consumption can be lower or higher depending on conditions and riding style.

Factors that affect fuel usage include:

* Cruising speed
* Sea state and wind conditions
* Number of passengers
* Fuel, ice, and fishing gear carried
* Hull design and engine size
* Time spent trolling or idling

Generally speaking, riding at moderate cruising speeds delivers the best fuel economy.

#### Which Jet Skis Are Most Fuel Efficient?

Naturally aspirated models are typically more fuel-efficient than supercharged models.

Popular offshore fishing platforms such as the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Sport, Yamaha FXHO JetFish, and Kawasaki Ultra LX are all capable of excellent fuel economy when operated sensibly.

While supercharged models provide greater performance and acceleration, they will generally consume more fuel, particularly when ridden aggressively.

#### How Far Can A Fishing Jet Ski Travel?

Many modern fishing jet skis have fuel capacities that allow anglers to comfortably travel offshore, fish for the day, and return with a healthy reserve.

Actual range depends on conditions and riding style, but many offshore anglers regularly complete trips of 50–100 kilometres or more without difficulty.

#### Always Carry A Safety Margin

When planning offshore trips, many experienced anglers follow the "Rule of Thirds":

* One-third of fuel for the journey out
* One-third for the return trip
* One-third held in reserve

This helps provide a safety buffer if conditions change, currents increase, weather deteriorates, or unexpected delays occur.

#### Fuel Efficiency Is One Of The Biggest Advantages

Compared with many offshore fishing boats, modern jet skis can be remarkably economical to operate.

For anglers wanting to access offshore reefs, wrecks, bait grounds, and pelagic fishing opportunities without the fuel bills often associated with larger boats, a fishing jet ski can offer an excellent balance of performance, range, and efficiency.

As with any vessel, understanding your own fuel consumption under local conditions is one of the most important parts of safe offshore trip planning.

Can You Catch Big Fish From a Jet Ski?

Absolutely.

Modern fishing jet skis are capable of targeting and landing many of the same species commonly caught from larger offshore boats.

Around Australia, jet ski anglers regularly catch:

* Snapper
* Spanish Mackerel
* Spotted Mackerel
* Longtail Tuna
* Yellowfin Tuna
* Mahi Mahi
* Kingfish
* Amberjack
* Wahoo
* Cobia
* Mulloway
* Marlin

In many cases, the challenge and excitement of fighting a fish from a jet ski can be even greater than from a boat.

The key factors are not the size of the vessel, but rather the angler's skill, suitable tackle, sound fish-finding techniques, and the ability to safely access productive fishing grounds.

Modern fishing jet skis have proven time and again that they are highly capable offshore fishing platforms capable of landing trophy fish in the right conditions.

Are Jet Skis Cheaper to Run Than Boats?

In most cases, yes.

While the purchase price of a modern fishing jet ski can be similar to some small boats, the ongoing ownership costs are often significantly lower. This is one of the reasons jet skis have become increasingly popular with anglers looking for an affordable way to access offshore fishing grounds.

#### Fuel Costs

Modern four-stroke jet skis are generally very fuel efficient for the performance they offer.

While fuel consumption varies depending on conditions, load, speed, and engine size, many anglers find that a fishing jet ski uses considerably less fuel than a similarly capable offshore fishing boat. Expect to achieve 1.7-2.5Km per litre of fuel depending on ski model. Most boats with equivalent sea-going capability and speed will run 1-1.5 km per litre.

#### Registration and Insurance

Depending on your state and insurer, registration and insurance costs are often lower for a jet ski than for a larger trailer boat and outboard combination.

#### Maintenance Costs

Jet skis have fewer major components than many trailer boats. There is no separate outboard motor, steering system, trailer braking system, live bait tank plumbing, or many of the other systems commonly found on larger fishing boats.

Regular servicing is still important, but many owners find overall maintenance costs are lower than those associated with a comparable offshore fishing boat.

#### Towing and Storage

A jet ski can often be towed by smaller vehicles and stored in a standard garage. This can eliminate or reduce:

* Marina fees
* Dry storage fees
* Large vehicle requirements
* Additional trailer storage costs

For many owners, storage savings alone can be substantial over time.

#### Launching and Retrieval

Most jet skis can be launched and retrieved by a single person in just a few minutes. This means less time at the boat ramp and often fewer costs associated with launching facilities and marina services.

#### Are There Any Trade-Offs?

Of course.

Boats generally offer:

* Greater carrying capacity
* More weather protection
* Additional passenger space
* Larger fuel capacities
* More onboard amenities

For some anglers, these advantages justify the higher running costs.

#### The Bottom Line

If your goal is to access offshore fishing grounds, target quality fish, and enjoy a practical and efficient fishing platform, a jet ski can offer exceptional value.

Many anglers are surprised to discover that a well-equipped fishing jet ski can provide offshore capability similar to much larger boats while often costing significantly less to fuel, store, maintain, tow, and operate.

For solo anglers or small fishing groups, a fishing jet ski is often one of the most cost-effective ways to enjoy offshore fishing adventures.

How Far Offshore Can a Jet Ski Safely Travel?

There is no single answer to this question.

The safe offshore range of a jet ski depends on several factors, including the model of watercraft, fuel capacity, sea conditions, weather forecasts, the experience of the rider, and the safety equipment being carried.

Modern fishing jet skis such as the Sea-Doo Fish Pro, Yamaha JetFish, Yamaha FXHO, and Kawasaki Ultra platforms are capable of travelling considerable distances offshore. Many experienced anglers regularly fish reefs, wrecks, and bait grounds located 20–50 kilometres offshore, while some undertake even longer journeys in suitable conditions.

#### What Limits Offshore Range?

The main factors that determine how far offshore you can safely travel include:

* Fuel capacity and fuel consumption
* Current and sea conditions
* Weather forecasts and changing conditions
* Rider experience and confidence
* Communication and navigation equipment
* Mechanical reliability and maintenance
* Availability of support or fishing companions

Just because a jet ski can travel a certain distance doesn't always mean it should.

#### Fuel Planning Is Critical

A common rule used by offshore anglers is the "Rule of Thirds":

* One-third of your fuel to travel out.
* One-third of your fuel to return.
* One-third kept in reserve for unexpected conditions.

This reserve can be invaluable if weather changes, currents increase, fish take you off course, or you need to assist another vessel.

#### Safety Equipment Matters

Before heading offshore, many experienced jet ski anglers carry:

* Marine VHF radio
* EPIRB or Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)
* GPS and fish finder
* Navigation lights where required
* First aid kit
* Drinking water
* Mobile phone in a waterproof case
* Appropriate safety equipment required by local regulations

#### Start Small and Build Experience

If you're new to offshore jet ski fishing, begin with shorter trips close to shore and gradually increase your distance as your confidence and experience grow.

Learning how your jet ski handles varying sea conditions, understanding fuel consumption, and developing sound trip-planning habits are all part of becoming a safe offshore angler.

#### So, How Far Offshore Is Safe?

For many experienced anglers, trips 20–30 kilometres offshore are routine in suitable conditions. Others regularly travel further when weather, fuel range, safety equipment, and experience allow.

Ultimately, the safest distance offshore is the one that allows you to return comfortably with an adequate fuel reserve, reliable communication equipment, and a suitable margin for changing conditions.

Modern fishing jet skis are remarkably capable offshore vessels, but good judgement, preparation, and respect for the conditions remain far more important than the distance travelled.

What Is the Best Jet Ski for Fishing?

The best jet ski for fishing depends on your budget, the type of fishing you do, how far offshore you travel, and whether you prefer a factory-built fishing package or a customised setup.

For many anglers, the leading choices currently include the Sea-Doo Fish Pro range and Yamaha's JetFish (FXHO) models, both of which are specifically designed for fishing and come equipped with features such as Garmin fish finders, rod holders, fishing storage systems, and offshore-focused accessories.

#### Sea-Doo Fish Pro Range

The Sea-Doo Fish Pro was the first factory-built fishing personal watercraft and remains one of the most popular fishing jet skis in the world. Models such as the Fish Pro Sport, Trophy, and Apex include fishing-specific features like rod holders, Garmin GPS/fish finder integration, insulated coolers, trolling mode, and extensive LinQ accessory compatibility.

The Fish Pro range is particularly popular with anglers wanting a complete turnkey fishing package straight from the showroom floor.

#### Yamaha JetFish

In Australia, Yamaha offers the FX HO JetFish, based on the highly respected FX WaveRunner platform. The JetFish includes Yamaha's RecDeck rear platform, Garmin fish finder and GPS, fishing rack system, insulated cooler, rod holders, and an extended rear boarding ladder.

Many anglers appreciate the Yamaha platform for its smooth ride quality, excellent fuel range, strong reliability reputation, and offshore capability.

#### Which One Is Best?

There is no single answer that suits everyone.

* If you want the most established factory fishing platform with extensive fishing-specific accessories, the Sea-Doo Fish Pro range is extremely hard to overlook.
* If you prefer Yamaha's FX platform, excellent offshore ride characteristics, and the versatility of the RecDeck system, the Yamaha JetFish is an outstanding option. Yamaha's reputation for reliability in marine engines is strong factor for their success.
* If you already own a large Yamaha FXHO or FXSVHO, many anglers successfully convert these into highly capable fishing machines using aftermarket accessories and custom setups.

#### What Matters Most?

Rather than focusing purely on brand, consider:

* Stability offshore
* Fuel capacity and range
* Storage space
* Fish finder and GPS capability
* Ease of launching and retrieving
* Availability of fishing accessories
* Reliability and dealer support
* Comfort during long days on the water

A well-equipped fishing jet ski can comfortably access offshore reefs, wrecks, bait grounds, and coastal fishing locations while costing significantly less to own and operate than many offshore fishing boats.

For many anglers, the "best" fishing jet ski is simply the one that best suits their local conditions, fishing style, budget, and the type of adventures they want to have on the water.

No piece of equipment is more important than good judgement. Conditions can change quickly offshore, so always operate within your experience level and be prepared to alter your plans if conditions deteriorate.

Jet ski fishing can be an incredibly safe and rewarding way to access offshore fishing grounds when the right preparation, equipment, and decision-making are combined.

What Is the Easiest Way to Launch or Retrieve a Jet Ski Onto a Trailer?

The easiest way to launch and retrieve a jet ski depends on your trailer setup, ramp conditions, and whether you're operating alone or with assistance.

For many anglers, one of the biggest advantages of a jet ski is that it can usually be launched and retrieved by a single person in just a few minutes. However, the process becomes even easier when the trailer is correctly set up and fitted with suitable launch and retrieval aids.

#### Launching a Jet Ski

A typical launch process involves:

* Completing all preparation away from the boat ramp.
* Fitting bungs and preparing safety equipment before entering the ramp area.
* Reversing the trailer into the water until the jet ski becomes buoyant.
* Releasing the winch and safety chain.
* Gently sliding or backing the jet ski from the trailer.
* Securing the craft to a nearby pontoon or beach while parking the vehicle.

#### Retrieving a Jet Ski

Retrieval can sometimes be more challenging, particularly in windy conditions, strong currents, or when fishing alone.

Common retrieval methods include:

* Driving the jet ski onto the trailer bunks.
* Winching the craft onto the trailer.
* Using guide poles to assist alignment.
* Walking the jet ski onto the trailer in shallow water.

#### How Can I Make Retrieval Easier?

Many experienced jet ski anglers use dedicated launch and retrieval systems to simplify the process.

Products such as the Jetcatch Launch & Retrieve System allow you to simply drive on and off the trailer. A special catch system engages or releases as required. This can significantly reduce the effort required to load the craft. This is particularly useful when retrieving in crosswinds, tidal flow, or when operating solo at a very busy ramp.

Benefits can include:

* Faster retrieval times
* Easier solo operation
* Improved trailer alignment
* Reduced physical effort
* Less time spent standing in the water
* Reduced stress at busy boat ramps

#### Does Trailer Setup Matter?

Absolutely.

A properly adjusted trailer can make a dramatic difference to both launching and retrieval. Factors such as roller position, skid alignment, winch height, trailer depth, and ramp angle all influence how easily a jet ski loads onto the trailer.

#### The Bottom Line

With the right technique and trailer setup, launching and retrieving a jet ski is generally much quicker and easier than launching most boats.

For anglers who regularly fish alone, a well-adjusted trailer combined with a dedicated launch and retrieval system can make the process safer, faster, and far less stressful, allowing you to spend more time fishing and less time at the boat ramp.

What Is the Best Fish Finder for Jet Ski Fishing?

The best fish finder for jet ski fishing depends on your budget, the type of fishing you do, and how far offshore you plan to travel. However, for most offshore jet ski anglers, Garmin has become the most popular choice due to its ease of use, excellent mapping, reliable performance, and wide range of compatible accessories.

Many factory fishing jet skis, including the Sea-Doo Fish Pro and Yamaha JetFish, are equipped with Garmin fish finders as standard equipment.

#### What Screen Size Is Best?

For most jet ski anglers, a 7-inch or 9-inch screen offers the best balance between visibility and available mounting space.

* **7-inch units** are ideal for smaller budgets and compact installations.
* **9-inch units** provide more screen area for split-screen sonar and chart views and are often considered the sweet spot for offshore fishing.
* **12-inch and larger units** offer exceptional visibility but may be excessive for some jet ski installations and can require more substantial mounting solutions.

#### Which Brands Are Popular?

Several major manufacturers produce excellent fish finders suitable for jet ski fishing, including:

* Garmin
* Lowrance
* Simrad
* Humminbird
* Raymarine

Each brand has its own strengths, but Garmin currently remains one of the most commonly used systems among offshore jet ski anglers.

#### What Features Should I Look For?

When choosing a fish finder for offshore jet ski fishing, consider:

* GPS chartplotter functionality
* High-definition sonar
* Side imaging or side scan capability
* Clear screen visibility in bright sunlight
* Reliable mapping options
* Easy-to-use controls
* Saltwater suitability
* Availability of local support and updates

#### Is a More Expensive Unit Worth It?

Not always.

A quality 7-inch or 9-inch fish finder will meet the needs of most anglers. Spending more generally provides larger screens, faster processing, additional networking options, and advanced sonar features, but these may not be necessary for every fishing style.

#### What Do Most Experienced Jet Ski Anglers Use?

Many experienced offshore anglers use Garmin ECHOMAP or Garmin GPSMAP series units because they offer an excellent combination of sonar performance, mapping, reliability, and ease of use.

That said, the best fish finder is ultimately the one that helps you find fish, navigate safely, and suits your budget and fishing style.

#### Don't Forget Protection

Regardless of which fish finder you choose, it will be exposed to constant sunlight, salt spray, vibration, and harsh marine conditions.

Protecting your investment with an exact-fit Rusler Sounder Cover can help reduce heat build-up, minimise saltwater exposure, and keep your fish finder looking and performing its best for years to come.

What Should I Carry on a Jet Ski Fishing Trip?

The equipment you carry will depend on how far offshore you're travelling, the weather conditions, and the type of fishing you plan to do. However, there are several items that every jet ski angler should consider carrying on every trip.

#### Safety Equipment

Safety should always come first. At a minimum, consider carrying:

* Approved life jacket (PFD)

How do I protect my fish finder from sun and saltwater?

Modern fish finders and chartplotters are designed for marine use, but constant exposure to UV sunlight, salt spray, rain, and harsh weather can significantly reduce their lifespan.

One of the biggest threats is saltwater intrusion. Salt crystals can build up around buttons, card slots, connectors, and mounting points, leading to corrosion and premature failure. As well, some brands have specific vulnerabilities to saltwater in connectors and seals in their shells.

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can also cause units to overheat, screens to fade or become difficult to read, and accelerate wear on plastics and seals.

To maximise the life of your electronics:

Fit a quality protective cover whenever the sounder is not in use.
Rinse your fish finder with fresh water after every trip.
Avoid storing the unit in direct sunlight for extended periods.
Keep SD card slots and rear connectors protected from salt spray.
Regularly inspect power and transducer connections for corrosion.

Rusler Sounder Covers are specifically designed to help protect valuable marine electronics from the damaging effects of sun, saltwater, dust, and weather. Unlike many generic vinyl covers, they are manufactured from a breathable marine-grade synthetic canvas that helps reduce heat build-up and moisture retention while providing excellent protection.

A small investment in protecting your fish finder today can help avoid costly repairs or replacement in the future.

Which products are best for beginners getting into jet ski fishing?

For anglers new to jet ski fishing, we recommend focusing on safety, protecting your equipment, and making your time on the water more enjoyable and stress-free. Some of the most popular products for beginners include:

Rusler Sounder Covers – One of the easiest ways to protect a valuable fish finder from UV exposure, saltwater spray, heat, and everyday wear. Despite claims of being "waterproof", all major name Sounders that come with the factory-equipped fishing skis from Sea-doo, Yamaha, and Kawasaki are particularly vulnerable to saltwater intrusion. The same models used on open boats are also subject to the same issues.

Navigation Lights – Essential for anglers launching before sunrise, returning after sunset, or operating in reduced visibility. Proper navigation lighting improves both safety and compliance.

Rod Wraps and Reel Covers – Help protect fishing gear during transport and storage while reducing the chance of damage to rods and reels.

Safety Tethers – A simple but effective way to secure valuable equipment and prevent accidental loss overboard. All jet ski fishos will tell you of their sad tales of gear losses for un-tethered items! It's not "if" but when!

Reaper Trolling Rigs – An easy-to-use trolling system that helps beginners target species such as mackerel, tuna, mahi mahi, and other pelagic fish without needing advanced rigging skills.

Seat Covers: hooks, fishing knifes, and fish spikes are all very harsh on your jet ski seats. As well, seats can get quite hot in summer conditions and make it uncomfortable to sit! Jetcast makes a range of protective seat covers for both Yamaha FX series and all Sea-doo Fish Pro skis. These both protect the seat from damage, but also add a lot of ride comfort!

As your confidence grows, many anglers then add accessories such as launch and retrieval solutions, and specialised fishing equipment.

What Mistakes Do New Jet Ski Anglers Make?

Most experienced jet ski anglers have made a few mistakes along the way. Fortunately, many of the common beginner mistakes are easy to avoid with a little planning and preparation.

Some of the most common mistakes include:

* Not checking weather and sea conditions carefully enough
* Travelling offshore without sufficient safety equipment
* Underestimating fuel requirements
* Not carrying reliable communication equipment
* Failing to tell someone where they are going
* Overloading the watercraft with unnecessary gear
* Not protecting expensive electronics from sun and saltwater
* Forgetting navigation lights for low-light conditions
* Not tethering valuable equipment
* Travelling further offshore than their experience level allows

One lesson that many anglers learn the hard way is that gear can disappear overboard surprisingly quickly. Rods, reels, pliers, gaffs, and electronics should all be secured by tethers wherever possible.

A simple rule followed by many experienced offshore anglers is:

**If you don't want to lose it, tether it.**

The good news is that most of these mistakes are easily avoided. With proper planning, suitable equipment, and a healthy respect for the conditions, jet ski fishing can be one of the safest and most rewarding forms of offshore fishing available.

What Is the Most Important Accessory for Offshore Jet Ski Fishing?

That's a difficult question because every angler's needs are different, but if experienced offshore jet ski anglers agree on one thing, it's this:

**Safety equipment always comes first.**

Before spending money on fishing accessories, make sure you have the essential safety items required for your local conditions and regulations, including appropriate communication and emergency equipment.

Once the safety basics are covered, the most valuable accessories are usually the ones that make your time on the water safer, easier, and more enjoyable.

Popular offshore jet ski accessories include:

* Fish finder and GPS
* Navigation lights
* Sounder covers
* Rod wraps and tethers
* Reel covers
* Dock lines
* Fish storage solutions
* Launch and retrieval systems
* Waterproof storage
* Additional rod holders

#### If We Had To Pick Just One...

For many offshore anglers, a quality fish finder and GPS would be the single most important accessory after safety equipment.

A fish finder helps locate bait, structure, and fish, while GPS mapping helps with navigation, marking productive locations, and safely returning to shore.

#### Don't Forget Protection

Many of the most valuable items on a fishing jet ski are also the most exposed. Electronics, rods, reels, and other equipment are constantly subjected to saltwater, sunlight, vibration, and harsh marine conditions.

Protecting your gear with quality covers, rod wraps, and tethers can often save far more money than the accessories cost in the first place.

#### The Real Answer

The most important accessory is ultimately the one that solves your biggest problem.

For some anglers that's a fish finder. For others it's navigation lights, a launch and retrieval system, sounder protection, or simply a reliable tether that prevents an expensive rod and reel from disappearing overboard.

The best offshore fishing setup is one that improves safety, protects your investment, and helps you spend more time enjoying your fishing adventures.

* Garmin
* Lowrance
* Simrad
* Humminbird
* Raymarine

Each brand has its own strengths, but Garmin currently remains one of the most commonly used systems among offshore jet ski anglers.

#### What Features Should I Look For?

When choosing a fish finder for offshore jet ski fishing, consider:

* GPS chartplotter functionality
* High-definition sonar
* Side imaging or side scan capability
* Clear screen visibility in bright sunlight
* Reliable mapping options
* Easy-to-use controls
* Saltwater suitability

Why are Jetcast Reel Covers different?

Jetcast Reel Covers are designed to provide simple, practical protection for fishing reels without the complexity of multiple sizes and complicated fitment charts.

Our covers use a flexible design that is one size fits most, making them suitable for a wide range of spinning reels commonly used by jet ski, kayak, boat, and land-based anglers.

Manufactured from durable marine-grade materials, Jetcast Reel Covers help protect reels from saltwater spray, UV exposure, dust, scratches, and transport damage. They are quick to fit and remove, making them ideal for anglers who regularly travel with rods rigged and ready to fish.

Unlike many generic covers, Jetcast Reel Covers have been selected and tested in real-world fishing conditions. They provide practical everyday protection while remaining lightweight, durable, and easy to use.

Whether you're storing your gear between trips or travelling to your next fishing destination on the sea, Jetcast Reel Covers offer a simple and affordable way to help protect your investment.

Why should I use a fishing reel cover?

Fishing reels are constantly exposed to saltwater spray, UV radiation, dust, road grime, and accidental knocks during transport and storage. Even when not being used, these factors can contribute to corrosion, fading, and premature wear.

A quality reel cover helps protect your investment by shielding the reel from everyday damage while travelling to and from the water, while travelling over the water, storing rods in vehicles, garages, sheds, or boats, and during periods when the reel is not in use.

Reel covers are particularly useful for anglers who regularly fish in saltwater environments, where protecting reels from unnecessary saltwater exposure can help maintain performance and extend their service life. Reels exposed to spray at high speeds over water are especially vulnerable to saltwater intrusion, with some reels failing very quickly after saltwater exposure.

Given the cost of modern fishing reels, a protective cover is an inexpensive way to help keep your gear looking and performing its best.

Why Use Rod Wraps and Rod Tethers?

Rod Wraps do much more than simply keep fishing rods organised.

Whether you're fishing from a boat, jet ski, kayak, or transporting rods in a vehicle, Rod Wraps help keep rods secured together, reduce tangles, and protect rod guides from damage during transport and storage.

On the water, fishing rods are constantly subjected to vibration, wave impacts, sudden movements, and the occasional unexpected knock. Rod Wraps help keep your gear organised while also providing a convenient and secure attachment point for rod tethers.

Many anglers use Rod Wraps as the primary attachment point for their tethers. This creates a strong connection point while avoiding the need to attach directly to rod guides, reel handles, or other components not designed for tethering.

If you fish from a jet ski, kayak, or small boat, losing a rod overboard can happen in seconds. A sudden strike, rough conditions, another angler moving around the boat, or simply reaching for the wrong rod can quickly result in expensive gear disappearing into the water.

For this reason, many experienced anglers follow a simple rule:

**If you don't want to lose it, tether it.**

Bungee-style rod tethers are particularly popular for trolling because they allow enough stretch to quickly remove a rod from the holder and fight a fish naturally, while still keeping the rod connected to the vessel until everything is under control.

Jetcast Tethers are designed specifically for harsh marine environments and feature corrosion-resistant stainless steel cables, marine-grade fittings, and one-handed clips that make attaching and removing equipment quick and easy. A regular carabiner can be very difficult to attached or detach with one hand, so we use specific styles of clips that have proved work best.

A quality Rod Wrap combined with a suitable tether is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect expensive fishing gear from loss, whether you're fishing offshore from a jet ski, casting from a kayak, or chasing your next trophy fish from a boat.

Why Should I Use Tethers on a Fishing Jet Ski?

If you spend enough time fishing from a jet ski, sooner or later something will end up in the water.

It might be a fishing rod, landing net, gaff, tackle tray, sounder head unit, sunglasses, pliers, or even your phone. Rough conditions, unexpected waves, fish strikes, and simple distractions can all result in valuable gear disappearing overboard in seconds.

For this reason, many experienced jet ski anglers follow a simple rule:

**If you don't want to lose it, tether it.**

Quality tethers provide a simple and inexpensive way to secure valuable equipment to your watercraft while still allowing it to be used normally.

Jetcast Tethers are designed specifically for the harsh realities of offshore fishing. They feature corrosion-resistant stainless steel cables and fittings for maximum durability in saltwater environments, along with clips that can be attached or released with one hand. This makes it quick and easy to secure or remove equipment while keeping your other hand free to control the watercraft or fishing gear.

Compared to the cost of replacing a rod, reel, gaff, or electronic device, a tether is often one of the cheapest pieces of equipment you'll ever buy.

Why Should I Use a Jet Ski Seat Cover?

A quality seat cover helps protect one of the most exposed and heavily used parts of your jet ski.

Factory seats are constantly exposed to UV sunlight, saltwater, sunscreen, fish slime, dirt, and everyday wear. Over time this can lead to fading, staining, cracking, and costly seat repairs or replacement.

Jetcast Seat Covers are designed to protect your original seat while improving comfort and appearance. Whether you fish, cruise, tow water sports, or simply enjoy exploring on your watercraft, a seat cover helps keep your seat looking newer for longer.

Benefits include:

* Reduced seat temperatures in direct sunlight
* Protection from UV damage and fading
* Protection from fish slime, bait, sunscreen, and dirt
* Reduced wear and abrasion
* Improved riding comfort
* Helping maintain the appearance and resale value of your jet ski

A quality seat cover is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to protect your investment while improving comfort every time you head out on the water.

Do Jet Ski Seat Covers Really Keep the Seat Cooler?

Yes, and for many owners this becomes one of their favourite benefits.

Anyone who has left a jet ski sitting in the Australian sun knows just how hot the factory seat can become. Seats can quickly become uncomfortable to sit on, particularly during summer.

Jetcast Seat Covers are manufactured from a breathable 3D mesh material that creates a small insulating air gap between the rider and the original seat. This design allows airflow around the seating surface and helps reduce heat transfer from the seat below.

The result is a noticeably cooler and more comfortable seating surface, especially after the jet ski has been parked in direct sunlight for extended periods.

The breathable mesh construction also allows water to drain away quickly, helping the seat dry faster after rain, washing, or a day on the water.

Many customers initially purchase a seat cover to protect their original upholstery, only to discover that the cooler seating surface becomes the feature they appreciate most.

Do I need navigation lights on my fishing jet ski?

In most cases, yes.

If you operate your jet ski during periods of restricted visibility, before sunrise, after sunset, or in low-light conditions, navigation lights are generally required by Australian marine regulations. Requirements vary between states and territories, so you should always check the latest rules that apply in your local area. For instance, NSW does not allow PWCs on the water between dusk and dawn.

For offshore anglers, navigation lights are often considered essential equipment, even if you plan to launch after sunrise and return before sunset. Unexpected delays, weather changes, fog, or a longer-than-planned fishing session can quickly leave you operating in reduced visibility.

#### Why Are Navigation Lights Important?

Navigation lights help other watercraft identify:

* Your position on the water
* The direction you are travelling
* Whether you are approaching, crossing, or moving away
* Your presence in low-light conditions

This significantly improves your visibility and safety, particularly in busy waterways, near boat ramps, and during offshore runs.

#### What Navigation Lights Does a Jet Ski Need?

Requirements vary depending on your location and operating conditions, but many offshore jet ski anglers use:

* Red and green navigation lights at the front of the craft
* A white all-round anchor or stern light mounted higher for visibility

Modern removable lighting systems are popular because they can be installed when needed and removed when not in use.

#### What If I Only Fish During The Day?

Even if you normally fish during daylight hours, navigation lights are a wise investment.

Many anglers launch before first light to maximise fishing time, return after sunset, or encounter unexpected delays offshore. Having navigation lights fitted ensures you're prepared if conditions change.

#### Choosing The Right Navigation Lights

When selecting a navigation light system for a jet ski, look for:

* Marine-grade construction
* Waterproof design
* Good visibility from all required angles
* Secure mounting system
* Compliance with applicable marine regulations
* Compatibility with your specific jet ski model

A quality navigation light system is one of the most important safety upgrades you can make to a fishing jet ski and is considered essential equipment by many experienced offshore anglers.

##Jetcast supplies a plug and play system using battery-operated Railblaza lights and custom-made mounting solutions for Yamaha and Sea-doo PWCs.

What Accessories Do I Need for Offshore Jet Ski Fishing?

The exact equipment you'll need depends on where you fish, the species you're targeting, and local regulations. However, there are a number of accessories that most experienced offshore jet ski anglers consider essential.

####Safety Equipment

Safety should always be your first priority offshore. Recommended equipment includes:

* Approved life jacket (PFD)
* Marine VHF radio or communication device
* Navigation lights where required
* EPIRB or Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). A PLB attached to your PFD is recommended
* Flares and signalling equipment

Rusler Sounder Covers

How Do I Protect Fishing Reels From Saltwater Corrosion?

Saltwater is one of the biggest enemies of any fishing reel. Even reels specifically designed for saltwater use can suffer from corrosion, seized bearings, reduced drag performance, and premature wear if not properly maintained.

The good news is that a few simple habits can dramatically extend the life of your reels.

#### After Every Fishing Trip

* Rinse your reel gently with fresh water.
* Avoid using high-pressure water, which can force salt deeper into the reel.
* Allow the reel to dry thoroughly before storage.
* Wipe down exposed metal surfaces.
* Check line rollers, handles, and drag knobs for salt build-up.

#### Regular Maintenance

* Follow the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations.
* Lubricate moving parts as required.
* Inspect reels regularly for signs of corrosion.
* Service heavily used reels periodically.
* Replace worn bearings and components before they cause further damage.

#### Protect Reels During Storage and Transport

Many reels spend far more time being stored or transported than they do fishing. During this time they remain exposed to dust, UV sunlight, road grime, moisture, and salt residue.

A quality reel cover helps protect your reel from:

* Salt spray and salt residue
* Dust and dirt
* UV exposure
* Accidental knocks and scratches
* Damage during transport and storage

#### Why Use a Reel Cover?

Jetcast Reel Covers are designed to provide year-round protection for spinning reels and overhead reels, whether they're mounted on a rod, stored in your garage, or travelling across rough seas to your next fishing destination.

Their one-size-fits-most design accommodates a wide range of reel sizes while providing quick and easy protection between trips.

For a relatively small investment, a reel cover can help keep your reel cleaner, reduce unnecessary wear, and help protect one of the most important pieces of fishing equipment you own.

When combined with regular freshwater rinsing and routine maintenance, protecting your reel from saltwater corrosion becomes much easier and can significantly extend its service life.

How Do I Stop My Fish Finder Screen Overheating?

Fish finders and chartplotters are designed to operate in harsh marine environments, but prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause screen temperatures to rise significantly, particularly during hot Australian summers.

If your sounder is left uncovered while parked at the boat ramp, on a trailer, at the marina, on the water, or stored outdoors, heat can build up rapidly inside the display. This can make the screen difficult to read, reduce performance, and over time may contribute to premature ageing of plastics, seals, and electronic components.

To help prevent overheating:

* Fit a quality Rusler Sounder Cover at all times
* Park your boat or jet ski in the shade whenever possible.
* Remove the display head during long-term storage if practical.
* Avoid leaving the unit powered on unnecessarily when stationary.

Rusler Sounder Covers are manufactured from a breathable marine-grade synthetic canvas rather than vinyl or plastic materials. This allows heat to dissipate more effectively while shielding the display from direct sunlight. The integrated visor also helps reduce sun exposure to the screen and surrounding housing.

Many customers report noticeably cooler screen temperatures after using a Rusler cover, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions where intense sunlight and high temperatures are common.

Protecting your fish finder from excessive heat is one of the simplest ways to help maximise the life and performance of your valuable marine electronics.

Can I Use the Plastic Screen Cover That Came With My Sounder When Travelling on the Road?

Yes, you can, and many anglers do.

Most fish finders and chartplotters are supplied with a plastic screen cover designed to protect the display during storage and transport. These covers provide basic protection against scratches, dust, and minor impacts.

However, the factory plastic cover only protects the front screen and leaves other areas of the sounder exposed, including the sides, rear connectors, mounting hardware, buttons, and card slots. When travelling long distances on a trailer, your electronics can still be exposed to road dust, rain, salt spray, UV exposure, and accidental knocks.

Rusler Sounder Covers are designed to provide more comprehensive protection by covering the entire display head rather than just the screen. They also help reduce heat build-up and shield sensitive components from the harsh marine environment.

Customers can still use the supplied plastic screen cover in addition to their Rusler Sounder Cover for additional protection.

If you regularly tow your boat or jet ski long distances, or store it outdoors between trips, an exact-fit sounder cover provides significantly greater protection than a screen cover alone.

Can I Use a BerleyPro Visor With a Rusler Sounder Cover?

Yes, absolutely.

Rusler Sounder Covers are designed to fit over fish finders and chartplotters, even if already fitted with a BerleyPro visor.

It's worth noting that all Rusler Sounder Covers feature an integrated visor as part of the cover design. In many cases, the Rusler visor extends as far as, or further than, a BerleyPro visor, providing excellent protection from sun, glare, rain, and salt spray. In addition, the Rusler cover's visor has a stainless steel rim stiffener to keep the shape even when soaked through!

Many customers therefore choose to use the Rusler cover on its own

If you're unsure whether your setup will fit, contact us with details of your sounder and visor, and we'll be happy to advise.

Can I Leave My Fish Finder/Sounder on My Jet Ski All the Time?

Yes, many fish finders and chartplotters are designed to remain mounted on your jet ski or boat between trips. However, leaving any marine electronic exposed to the elements full-time will increase its exposure to sun, saltwater, rain, dust, and accidental damage.

The biggest concerns are typically:

* UV damage from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
* Salt spray and salt crystal build-up around buttons, card slots, and connectors.
* Screen overheating when parked in the sun.
* Corrosion of electrical contacts and mounting hardware.
* Increased risk of scratches, knocks, theft, and general wear.

If you regularly leave your fish finder mounted on your jet ski, we strongly recommend protecting it with a quality sounder cover whenever it is not in use. A cover helps shield the screen, buttons, and sensitive areas from the harsh marine environment while keeping the unit cooler when parked outdoors.

For longer periods of storage, some anglers prefer to remove the display head altogether, particularly if the unit features a quick-release mount. This can provide additional protection against weather exposure and theft.

Many Garmin units continue to perform reliably for years when properly protected and maintained. Regular freshwater rinsing and the use of a quality exact-fit sounder cover are two of the simplest ways to maximise the life of your investment.

What Size Sounder Cover Do I Need?

Rusler Sounder Covers are manufactured for an exact fit to specific fish finder and chartplotter models. Unlike generic covers designed to fit a range of different units, each Rusler cover is tailored to the shape and dimensions of the individual sounder for maximum protection, improved durability, and a professional appearance.

We keep stock of many popular Garmin covers ready for immediate dispatch. For most other brands and models, we custom-make each cover to order, typically within 2–4 business days of receiving your order.

When ordering a custom-made cover, you'll be asked to select your sounder size category. These categories are used for pricing purposes only and do not determine the final fit of the cover. Every Rusler cover is manufactured specifically for the make and model of sounder you provide.

For ordering and pricing purposes, our covers are grouped into the following size categories:

* **Small** – Most 4", 5", and 6" units
* **Medium** – Most 7" and 8" units
* **Large** – Most 9" units
* **X-Large** – Most 10" and 11" units
* **2XL** – Most 12" and 13" units
* **3XL** – Most 14", 15", and 16" units
* **4XL** – Most 17" to 20" units

When placing your order, please include the brand and model number of your sounder in the order comments. This ensures we manufacture the correct cover for your unit. If you're unsure which size category to select or can't find your model listed, simply contact us and we'll be happy to help.

We can manufacture covers for most Garmin, Lowrance, Simrad, Humminbird, Raymarine, Furuno, Sea-Doo, Yamaha, and many other marine electronics. We can also produce covers for similarly sized marine equipment such as VHF radios and other electronic devices.

An exact-fit cover not only looks better, it also provides superior protection from sun, saltwater, dust, and accidental knocks compared to loose-fitting universal alternatives.

What are Rusler Sounder Covers?

Rusler Sounder Covers are premium marine-grade protective covers designed to fit Garmin, Simrad, Lowrance, Humminbird, Raymarine, and other fish finders. They help protect screens, buttons, SD card slots and connectors from UV, heat and saltwater exposure while reducing glare and screen temperatures.

How long do sounder covers last?

The lifespan of a sounder cover depends on the materials used, the environment it is exposed to, and how often it is used.

Low-cost covers made from vinyl or lightweight materials may only last a few seasons before becoming brittle, cracking, fading, or losing their shape. In contrast, high-quality covers manufactured from marine-grade materials can provide many years of reliable protection.

Rusler Sounder Covers are made from a premium marine-grade synthetic canvas chosen specifically for harsh marine environments. The material is water-resistant, UV-stable, breathable, and designed to withstand prolonged exposure to sun, saltwater, and everyday use.

To maximise the life of your sounder cover:

* Rinse with fresh water after exposure to salt spray.
* Allow the cover to dry before long-term storage.
* Avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
* Store indoors when the vessel is not being used for extended periods.
* Ensure the cover is fitted correctly to minimise unnecessary wear.

Many of our customers have been using the same Rusler Sounder Covers for years in some of Australia's toughest fishing environments, including Far North Queensland, the Northern Territory, and offshore waters along the east coast.

While no cover lasts forever, a quality sounder cover can provide years of protection and help extend the life of your valuable marine electronics at the same time.

How are Rusler Sounder Covers different from vinyl covers now coming into the market?

Rusler Sounder Covers are designed specifically for marine use and are made to fit individual fish finder models, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Unlike vinyl covers that are direct copies of our original design, Rusler Covers are manufactured from premium marine-grade synthetic canvas that is breathable, helping to reduce heat build-up, condensation, and moisture retention. This is particularly important in hot, humid, and saltwater environments where electronics are constantly exposed to harsh conditions.

Each cover is designed to provide excellent protection for the screen, buttons, SD card slots, rear connectors, and mounting terminals while still allowing quick and easy removal when it's time to fish.

Rusler Covers have been tested in real offshore conditions and are trusted by anglers using Garmin, Simrad, Lowrance, Humminbird, Raymarine, Yamaha, and Sea-Doo equipment throughout Australia and internationally.

Rather than simply covering the screen, Rusler Covers are designed to help extend the life of your valuable electronics by protecting them from UV exposure, saltwater spray, heat, dust, and everyday wear and tear.

A small investment in protecting your fish finder today can help avoid costly repairs or replacement in the future.

Are Fish Finder Covers Worth It?

For most anglers, absolutely!

A quality fish finder or chartplotter can represent a significant investment, often costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars. While marine electronics are designed to withstand harsh environments, constant exposure to UV sunlight, salt spray, rain, dust, and accidental impacts can shorten their lifespan over time.

A fish finder cover helps protect vulnerable areas such as the screen, buttons, card slots, and electrical connections when the unit is not in use. Covers can also reduce heat build-up when in direct sunlight, helping to protect sensitive electronics and improve screen longevity.

Many anglers find that a cover provides benefits beyond simple protection, including:

* Reduced exposure to saltwater and corrosion.
* Protection from scratches and accidental knocks.
* Reduced UV damage and fading.
* Lower screen temperatures when stored outdoors.
* Cleaner screens with less dust, dirt, and water spotting.
* Improved resale value by keeping the unit looking newer for longer.

For jet ski anglers in particular, electronics are often exposed to constant spray, harsh sun, and challenging offshore conditions. A well-designed fish finder cover can provide inexpensive insurance for some of the most expensive equipment on your craft.

Considering the replacement cost of modern fish finders, many anglers view a protective cover as one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to extend the life of their electronics.

* LinQ accessory system
* Integrated fishing cooler and rod holders
* Garmin GPS and fish finder
* Trolling mode
* Live bait well and washdown system on Trophy models
* Intelligent Debris Free (iDF) system on selected models
* Large range of fishing-specific accessories and aftermarket upgrades

Many anglers also appreciate the Sea-Doo's highly integrated fishing layout and extensive storage options.

#### Yamaha JetFish Advantages

The Yamaha JetFish is based on Yamaha's highly respected FX HO WaveRunner platform and has quickly developed a strong following among offshore anglers in Australia.

Key features include:

* Garmin fish finder and GPS
* Rear-mounted cooler and fishing rack system
* Yamaha RecDeck extended rear platform
* Extended rear boarding ladder
* Excellent offshore ride quality
* Strong reliability reputation
* Comfortable ergonomics for long-distance riding

Many experienced offshore anglers particularly like the Yamaha FX hull for rough-water comfort, reliability, stability, and long-range offshore use.

#### Storage and Fishing Features

If fishing-specific features are your highest priority, many anglers feel the Sea-Doo Fish Pro offers the more specialised package, particularly on Trophy and Apex models with their livewell systems, fishing seat options, and dedicated fishing accessories.

The Yamaha JetFish focuses more on combining Yamaha's proven FX platform with a practical fishing setup, giving owners a versatile WaveRunner that performs equally well for fishing, cruising, and family use.

#### Fuel Consumption

Fuel usage will vary depending on riding style, load, weather conditions, and distance travelled. However, several independent reviews have noted that the naturally aspirated Sea-Doo Fish Pro models can be more fuel-efficient than Yamaha's larger 1.9-litre FX platform during long offshore trips.

For many offshore anglers, fuel range remains one of the most important considerations when choosing a fishing ski.

There are now some well-engineered aftermarket auxiliary fuel tanks available for fitting to both Fish Pro and FXHO platforms. These extend the fuel capacity by between 20 and 40 litres, making those longer days and higher kilometers more viable.

#### Which One Should You Buy?

Choose the **Sea-Doo Fish Pro** if:

* You want the most fishing-focused factory package available.
* You value integrated fishing features and accessories.
* You want the widest range of fishing-specific upgrades and aftermarket support.
* Features such as trolling mode, live bait systems, and LinQ accessories appeal to you.

Choose the **Yamaha JetFish** if:

* You prefer the Yamaha FX platform.
* Offshore ride comfort and rough-water capability are major priorities.
* You value Yamaha's reputation for reliability and long-distance cruising comfort.
* You want a fishing ski that can easily double as a recreational WaveRunner.

#### What About Kawasaki?

Kawasaki has also entered the fishing personal watercraft market with fishing-focused versions of its Ultra platform. While these models have not received the same level of marketing or aftermarket support as the Sea-Doo Fish Pro and Yamaha JetFish, they are still worth considering for anglers who prefer Kawasaki's reputation for performance, comfort, and offshore capability.

The Kawasaki Ultra platform has long been respected for its smooth ride, stability, and powerful engine options, making it a capable base for offshore fishing. Although less commonly seen in fishing-specific configurations, it remains an interesting alternative for buyers wanting something different from the more mainstream fishing jet ski options.

#### Final Thoughts

Both the Sea-Doo Fish Pro and Yamaha JetFish are outstanding offshore fishing platforms capable of reaching reefs, wrecks, bait grounds, and offshore fishing locations that would traditionally require a much larger boat.

For anglers wanting the most specialised fishing setup straight from the factory, the Sea-Doo Fish Pro range arguably still sets the benchmark. For those who love the Yamaha FX platform and want excellent offshore comfort combined with a factory-backed fishing package, the Yamaha JetFish is an exceptional alternative.

The good news is that there really isn't a wrong choice — both have helped introduce thousands of anglers to offshore jet ski fishing and continue to prove just how capable modern fishing personal watercraft can be.

Before heading offshore, anglers should always:

* Check weather and sea conditions carefully
* Carry the required safety equipment
* Ensure communication and navigation equipment are operational
* Plan fuel requirements and trip distance
* Advise someone of their intended trip and return time

Good preparation and sound decision-making are essential for safe offshore fishing.

* Reel covers
* Navigation lights

For anglers looking for a versatile platform that can be used for both fishing and recreation, it remains one of the most popular fishing WaveRunners available in Australia. It's also the platform that Jetcast chooses!

Do your products fit both Sea-Doo and Yamaha jet skis?

Many do, although some products are model-specific. We offer solutions for popular Sea-Doo Fish Pro, Explorer Pro, Trophy and Yamaha FXHO/SVHO models, along with universal accessories that suit most personal watercraft.

The Sea-Doo Fish Pro offers several advantages for anglers:

* Excellent fuel range

* Factory-fitted fishing accessories
* Garmin GPS and fish finder integration

Before heading offshore, anglers should always:

* Check weather and sea conditions carefully
* Carry the required safety equipment
* Ensure navigation and communication equipment are functioning correctly
* Understand their fuel requirements and operating range
* Let someone know their trip plan

As with any vessel, the operator's experience and judgement are just as important as the craft itself.

#### What Accessories Should I Add?

Many Fish Pro owners choose to add accessories that improve protection, convenience, and safety, including:

* Sounder covers
* Reel covers
* Navigation lights
* Rod wraps
* Tethers
* Dock lines
* Additional storage solutions

These accessories help protect equipment from the harsh marine environment while making offshore trips more enjoyable and organised.

The Sea-Doo Fish Pro has introduced thousands of anglers to offshore fishing and remains one of the most capable, practical, and enjoyable fishing personal watercraft available today. For many owners, it offers an excellent balance between fishing performance, ease of use, fuel efficiency, and adventure.

Will a Jetcast Seat Cover Fit My Sea-Doo Fish Pro, Explorer Pro or Yamaha FXHO?

Jetcast Seat Covers are designed as model-specific products to ensure the best possible fit, appearance, and comfort.

We currently offer exact-fit seat covers for selected Sea-Doo and Yamaha models, including popular fishing and touring watercraft such as:

* Sea-Doo Fish Pro models: Sport, Trophy, Apex
* Sea-Doo Explorer Pro models
* Yamaha FXHO models
* Yamaha FXSVHO models
* Yamaha FX/SVHO Cruiser models

Each seat cover is designed around the shape and dimensions of the original seat to provide a neat, secure fit without compromising comfort or access to storage compartments.

#### How Do I Know Which Seat Cover To Order?

Simply match the seat cover to your jet ski model and year as shown on the product page. If you're unsure, contact us before ordering and we'll be happy to help confirm compatibility.

A properly fitted seat cover not only improves comfort and appearance, it also helps protect your original seat from UV exposure, fish slime, sunscreen, dirt, and everyday wear, helping keep your jet ski looking its best for years to come.

What Are the Most Popular Accessories for Yamaha JetFish Owners?

The Yamaha JetFish is already one of the most complete factory-built fishing jet skis available, arriving with a Garmin fish finder and GPS, fishing rack, rod holders, insulated cooler, RecDeck platform, and rear boarding ladder straight from the showroom.

Because the core fishing setup is already included, many owners focus on accessories that improve protection, safety, organisation, and convenience rather than adding basic fishing functionality.

Some of the most popular upgrades include:

* Sounder cover.
* Reel covers
* Rod wraps
* Rod and equipment tethers
* Navigation lights
* Dock lines
* Fish bags and additional storage solutions
* Waterproof storage for phones and valuables
* Launch and retrieval systems
* Additional rod holders and mounting accessories

#### Protecting Expensive Electronics

The factory Garmin sounder is one of the most valuable pieces of equipment on the JetFish. Because it is constantly exposed to sunlight, salt spray, rain, vibration, and offshore conditions, many owners choose to fit an exact-fit sounder cover to help protect the screen, buttons, connectors, and display housing. The best solution available is Jetcast's Rusler Sounder Covers.

#### Rod Protection and Tethers

Many experienced offshore anglers consider rod wraps and tethers essential equipment.

Whether you're travelling offshore, crossing rough water, or fighting a fish beside the ski, expensive rods and reels can disappear overboard surprisingly quickly. Rod wraps help keep rods organised and provide a convenient attachment point for tethers.

A simple rule followed by many experienced anglers is:

**If you don't want to lose it, tether it.**

#### Navigation Lights

Navigation lights are one of the most common upgrades for JetFish owners who launch before sunrise, return after sunset, or fish offshore where visibility can change unexpectedly.

A removable lighting system helps improve visibility and safety while remaining practical for everyday use.

#### Launch and Retrieval Systems

One of the biggest advantages of the JetFish is the ability to launch and retrieve the craft by yourself. Many owners further simplify the process by fitting dedicated launch and retrieval systems that help make solo retrieval easier in wind, current, and busy ramp conditions.

#### Why Do Owners Add Accessories?

The JetFish already provides an outstanding offshore fishing platform. Most accessories are added to improve:

* Protection of expensive equipment
* Safety offshore
* Organisation and storage
* Convenience during long fishing trips
* Ease of launching and retrieving

The result is a fishing platform that becomes even more capable, comfortable, and practical for offshore adventures while helping protect the significant investment many owners make in their equipment and electronics.

Yes. Jetcast welcomes enquiries from selected dealers, retailers, distributors, fishing clubs, charter operators, and marine businesses interested in stocking or purchasing products in larger quantities.

Trade pricing may be available for eligible businesses depending on the product range, order quantities, and location. Many Jetcast products are unique or specialist items that appeal to jet ski anglers, boat fishers, and marine electronics users.

If you are interested in becoming a reseller or would like information about trade pricing, please contact Jetcast with details about your business and the products you are interested in.

Why do some Jetcast products cost more than similar products elsewhere?

There are a few reasons.

First, please check which currency you're viewing. Jetcast is an Australian business and prices are typically displayed in Australian Dollars (AUD). Depending on exchange rates, international customers may find the equivalent price in their local currency is lower than expected.

More importantly, Jetcast focuses on quality products that are designed to perform reliably in harsh marine environments. Many of our products are tested and used in real offshore conditions, where constant exposure to saltwater, UV, heat, vibration, and rough conditions quickly exposes weaknesses in cheaper alternatives.

We prioritise durable materials, proven designs, and products that we would confidently use ourselves. While the initial purchase price may be higher than some mass-produced alternatives, quality products often last longer, perform better, and reduce the need for frequent replacement.

For many customers, reliability and long-term value are more important than simply finding the lowest purchase price.

Do we need to pay taxes or duties on international orders?

Import duties, taxes, tariffs and customs fees vary by country and are the responsibility of the purchaser unless otherwise stated.

United States Orders

For orders shipped from our Australian warehouse, any applicable US tariffs and handling fees are included in the checkout price, so there are no additional charges on arrival.

For custom-made Rusler Sounder Covers and any Rusler accessories shipped directly from the Rusler factory in New Zealand via DHL, we are currently unable to pre-collect US tariffs and import charges. In these cases, the purchaser may be required to pay duties, tariffs and customs fees before delivery. While rates vary, they are often in the range of 10–20% of the goods value. If you have concerns, please check the latest requirements with US Customs before ordering.

All Other International Destinations

Import duties, taxes, tariffs, VAT/GST and customs clearance fees are determined by your local authorities and may be payable upon import. These charges are outside our control and are not included in our product or shipping prices unless specifically stated.

If you are unsure about the import requirements for your country, we recommend checking with your local customs authority before placing your order.

Which countries do you ship to?

We proudly ship Jetcast products worldwide from Australia. Our customers can be found across Australia, New Zealand, North America, Europe and beyond.

Shipping rates are calculated automatically at checkout, and most orders are dispatched within 1–3 business days. If you're unable to find your country at checkout, contact us and we'll be happy to investigate shipping options for you.
